Sometimes you don’t need a plane ticket, a packed itinerary, or even a long drive to feel like you’ve actually gotten away. Just 45 minutes from Cleveland, tucked into the quiet countryside of West Farmington, Ohio, The Triangle is a tiny A-frame cabin that somehow makes Northeast Ohio feel much farther away. I recently spent two nights at The Triangle looking for exactly that: a slow weekend surrounded by trees, cozy cabin mornings, and a chance to disconnect without traveling hours from home.
At only 400 square feet, The Triangle isn’t a sprawling luxury cabin—and that’s part of what makes it special. With its exposed wood beams, loft bedroom, wood-burning stove, secluded deck, and one wooded acre, it embraces everything I love about a cabin getaway. If you’re searching for a cozy cabin near Cleveland, Ohio, here’s what it’s like to spend a weekend at The Triangle.
The Triangle: An A-Frame Cabin in West Farmington, Ohio
The Triangle is located in West Farmington, Ohio, in the countryside of Ohio’s Amish Country (aka Geauga County). It’s roughly 45 miles from Cleveland, making it an easy option for a spontaneous weekend away without sacrificing half of your weekend just getting there.

Pulling down the gravel drive, you’re immediately surrounded by trees. And despite being less than an hour from Cleveland, the setting feels noticeably quieter. The cabin itself is a classic A-frame: small, triangular, wood-covered and incredibly cozy. Inside, exposed pine beams stretch toward the peak of the ceiling while a loft sleeping area overlooks the main living space. A wood-burning stove sits below, creating exactly the kind of cabin atmosphere you hope for when booking an A-frame in the woods. Outside, you have an acre of wooded property and a deck made for morning coffee, dinner outside, or sitting under the stars after dark. It doesn’t take long to settle into a slower pace here.
My Two-Night Stay at The Triangle
Two nights felt like the perfect amount of time for a quick reset. One of the things I appreciated most about staying here was that there didn’t need to be an itinerary. So much of my travel revolves around seeing as much as possible—hiking trails, chasing sunrise, photographing destinations and trying to fit another stop into the day. The Triangle felt like permission to do the opposite.
Slow down. Make coffee. Sit outside. Read. Cook something. Actually notice how quiet it is.

The cabin is small enough that it feels intimate without feeling like you’re sacrificing the things you need for a comfortable stay. There’s a kitchen, comfortable living space, loft sleeping area and plenty of outdoor space to enjoy. For a two-night Northeast Ohio getaway, it was exactly enough.

Inside The Triangle Cabin
If you’re drawn to cozy cabin interiors, you’ll probably fall in love with this one immediately. The A-frame architecture is the centerpiece of the entire space. Exposed pine beams follow the steep roofline upward, creating cathedral ceilings that make the 400-square-foot cabin feel much more open than you might expect.
The wood-burning stove anchors the main living area and gives the cabin that quintessential weekend-in-the-woods feeling. Firewood is provided, so during cooler months you can actually settle in around a fire rather than having the stove there purely for aesthetics. Above the main living area is the loft sleeping space, tucked beneath the peak of the A-frame. There’s also a kitchen, which I think is particularly important at a property like this. Part of the appeal is being able to stay in rather than feeling like you have to leave the cabin for every meal. Coffee and breakfast at the cabin just feel right.
The Deck Might Be My Favorite Part
As much as I loved photographing the interior, the outdoor space is what makes The Triangle feel like a true escape. The cabin sits on approximately one wooded acre, giving you room to get outside without even leaving the property. The deck was rebuilt in 2024 and extends the living space outdoors. During the day, you’re surrounded by the trees and sounds of the countryside. At night, things get even better.

The Triangle is located in an area with darker skies than you’d typically experience around Cleveland, making clear nights ideal for sitting outside and looking up. There’s something incredibly simple about ending a day that way. No elaborate plans. Just a quiet cabin, trees overhead and a night sky you can actually see.
A Cabin Designed for Slowing Down
The Triangle isn’t filled with flashy resort amenities. Instead, the amenities seem intentionally chosen around one idea: slow down. You’ll find books, a yoga mat and simple touches throughout the cabin that make staying in feel like part of the experience rather than something you do between activities. And I think that’s important when deciding whether this is the right Ohio cabin for you. If you’re looking for a huge property with a game room, resort pool and endless entertainment, this probably isn’t that trip. If you want to make coffee, curl up with a book, cook dinner together, sit outside beneath the trees and disappear for a couple of days?
That’s exactly where The Triangle shines.

Things to Do Near The Triangle Cabin
You could easily spend most of your two-night stay enjoying the property, but The Triangle is also surprisingly well positioned for exploring some of my favorite outdoor areas in Northeast Ohio.
A few places you can visit nearby include:
- Nelson-Kennedy Ledges State Park – Around 20 minutes away and one of the most unique hiking spots in Northeast Ohio, with dramatic rock formations, narrow passages and waterfalls.
- Observatory Park – Approximately 25 minutes away and an International Dark Sky Park that’s particularly worth visiting if you’re interested in stargazing.
- Camp Hi Canoe & Kayak – Around 15 minutes away in Hiram for paddling the Upper Cuyahoga River.
- Holden Arboretum – Roughly 30 minutes from the cabin with miles of trails and beautiful forest scenery.
- Burton Village – About 10 minutes away for a little local exploring, food and small-town charm.
- Grand River Valley wine country – Approximately 25 minutes away if you’d rather spend an afternoon exploring Northeast Ohio wineries.
That gives you plenty of flexibility.
You can make The Triangle a base camp for an adventure-packed Northeast Ohio weekend or barely leave the cabin at all.
Both are valid choices.
A Perfect Weekend Getaway From Cleveland
One of The Triangle’s biggest selling points is simply how close it is to Cleveland. I love traveling far from home, but I’ve also come to appreciate finding places that create the feeling of travel without requiring a full travel day. From Cleveland, you can finish your week, pack the car and be in the countryside in under an hour. That makes The Triangle especially appealing for a two-night stay.
You aren’t spending Friday night driving four or five hours just to turn around and come home Sunday. Instead, almost your entire weekend can actually be spent enjoying the destination. For anyone searching for a romantic getaway near Cleveland, a quiet solo retreat, a creative weekend, or simply an excuse to get out of the city, the location is hard to beat.
Who Is The Triangle Best For?
Because this is a tiny A-frame rather than a large vacation rental, I think knowing what kind of experience you want matters.
The Triangle is especially good for:
- Couples looking for a romantic Ohio cabin getaway
- Solo travelers wanting somewhere quiet to reset
- Creatives looking for a peaceful writing or photography retreat
- Outdoor lovers who want easy access to nearby hiking and paddling
- Cleveland locals looking for an easy weekend escape
- Travelers who prefer cozy, character-filled stays over large resorts
It’s worth noting that pets aren’t permitted, so you’ll need to leave your four-legged adventure buddy at home for this trip.
Check-in is at 4 p.m., checkout is at 11 a.m., and arrival is easy with a self-guided lockbox system.
Is Two Nights at The Triangle Enough?
For me, two nights was ideal. It’s enough time to settle into the property instead of feeling like you’re arriving just to turn around and leave again. If you’re coming from Cleveland, I’d recommend arriving as close to check-in as possible on your first day. Bring groceries or stop for them along the way so you don’t immediately have to leave again. Then give yourself at least one morning with absolutely nowhere you need to be. Make breakfast. Take your coffee onto the deck. Read a few pages of the book you keep saying you’re going to finish.
If you want some adventure, spend the afternoon hiking at Nelson-Kennedy Ledges or exploring another nearby park before returning to the cabin for the evening. That’s really all the itinerary you need.
Is The Triangle Cabin Worth It?
If you’re looking for a unique cabin near Cleveland, Ohio, I absolutely think The Triangle deserves a spot on your list. It’s not trying to be an extravagant luxury resort. It’s something simpler. A tiny A-frame beneath the trees. A wood-burning stove. A quiet deck. Dark skies. A full kitchen. A couple of days where there’s nowhere you necessarily have to be. And sometimes that’s exactly what a weekend away should be.
What surprised me most wasn’t necessarily the cabin itself—it was how quickly somewhere less than an hour from Cleveland could make me feel like I’d actually gone somewhere. For anyone craving a cozy Ohio weekend getaway, The Triangle offers that rare combination of being incredibly easy to reach while still feeling removed from everyday life. Two nights later, I left feeling like I’d been gone much longer. And to me, that’s the sign of a pretty great getaway.
